Carrier controls save thousands of pounds at Stansted Airport |
|
Carrier's turnkey management of an air conditioning controls installation at Stansted Airport saved several tens of thousands
of pounds in customised software routines, wiring and additional controls.
The retrofitted controls were a fraction of the cost of the chillers but ensure that they operate at peak efficiency,
even at low loads, eliminating wear and tear from unnecessary stops and starts
In the cavernous plant rooms below the terminal, Carrier has two inverter-controlled Carrier 19XR Series centrifugal
chillers, providing 2.4 MW of cooling, and two Carrier Global 30HXC heat reclaim water-cooled screw machines providing 1.2 MW. These all supply chilled water to the air
handling system for the famous single main Arrivals and Departures terminal
A new Carrier Chillervisor System Manager controls the system temperature and sequencing for the chillers. It
also provides summer/winter changeover duty based on calendar date. All of the ancillary equipment including valves, pumps
and obligatory Gas Detection System is
integrated through a carrier Comfort Controller which also controls them.
A modem link in the compact and tidy wall-mounted control box enables the on-site facilities management team to have
the knowledge of the system operation at all times and the Carrier Service team to run pre-determined programmed
maintenance routines that
support the trouble-free operation of the chillers.
